Player PEL Form
Player PEL Form
Your PEL is extremely useful to staff, and helps us give you better plot! Also, PCs get 1 CP for submitting a reasonably detailed PEL by 2 weeks after the event. (Monosyllabic PELs will not get full CP.)
More information about what we’re looking for in a PEL and how we use them appears below, but first, here’s the form for easy reference.
Please send your PEL to pel@sevenvirtueslarp.com.
NEW - Please submit facets and between event skills separately from your PEL, through our online forms. We will post links to the forms for each event on the mailing list as soon as they are created.
For facets, please be sure to use the self-recommendation form to recommend yourself for exactly three facets — no more, no less. Both NPCs and PCs can use the form for recommendations for Others (NPCs can put “NPC” in the “Character Name” field).
Here is the new PC PEL form, without the questions that are now covered in the online forms:
PEL - Your Real Name (Your Character Name) - Date of Event
1. What significant interactions did you have this event?
2. Did anything happen that you think might lead to follow up?
3. What are your character's general goals?
3a. Do you have any OOG goals for the game in addition?
4. Do you have any specific plans for next event we should be aware of?
5. Did any NPCs stand out as doing a particularly good job?
6. Did you help with setup/cleanup?
6a. If so, did you stay until the last staff person left?
7. Do you have any more comments for us?
Further Explanation
Question #1 is basically where you write what happened at the event for you. We say “significant interactions” rather than “plot” because sometimes the most important stuff that happened might be PC-driven rather than plot-driven. For instance, if you sat down with 20 PCs planning to overthrow the Vortican government, we really want to know about that even though it’s not a “plotline” per se. Yet.
Question #2 is really crucial for us! Any time an NPC says they’ll get back to you on something, or when you do something you’re hoping will have some kind of future result, or even when you defy the big villain to their face and think maybe they’ll come back for vengeance later, please remind us here! Even if you think it’s really obvious. We’re totally exhausted after events and sometimes we forget stuff.
Questions 3 & 4 are hopefully self-explanatory.
Question #5 allows us to pass your love on to our NPCs so that they feel said love and keep coming back! If you loved an NPC, we may also be more likely to make the role recur.
Question #6a is literal. Staying until almost everyone was gone does not get you the bonus CP, because there is a phenomenon wherein when everything is Almost Done everyone leaves, and then 5 people have to finish up work that would have taken 40 people 15 minutes and now takes 5 people 2 hours. If you want the extra CP, you must wait until the campaign director and cleanup coordinator are ready to leave site to get it. Check in with them if you’re not sure.
PEL Purpose & Feedback Guidelines
We use your PEL for the following purposes:
1.Floon! We work very, very hard on each event. We get paid in your floon. Your PEL is like our paycheck. If you had a good time and tell us about it, that’s what keeps us going and gives us the energy and enthusiasm we need to get to work on the next event. We want to hear all about the cool things you did! Feel free to war story. It’s almost impossible for your PEL to be “too long.” (OK, 20 pages or more might be a bit much. 10 is fine, though.)
2. Reference. We weren’t there for everything important that happened at the event, and even if we were there, we probably forgot some stuff. We need your PEL so we can remember exactly what did happen (and learn about stuff we never knew about).
3. Follow Up. We really want to allow you to have an effect on the game. Looking at your PEL is hugely helpful to us in figuring out how to make sure your actions have consequences and your plans have a chance of coming to fruition... and also in trying to avoid letting anyone slip between the cracks.
4. Practicalities. That cleanup and info skill info, you know. Very handy. Don’t forget that your info skills need to be in by the 2-week PEL deadline to count.
5. Feedback. We do want to hear your ideas for how we can improve our weak areas or solve problems as well as what you think we’re doing fabulously already. We do urge you that when you give negative feedback, please remember to do so in a positive way! Here are some important and handy notes on things to bear in mind when telling us about a problem:
We want you to have a good time. So if you didn’t have a good time, that wasn’t our intent. We never do things just to be mean, honest. Therefore, if you didn’t have a good time, one of the following things happened:
•We made a mistake, and we already know about it. If this is the case, we probably already feel terrible about it. Be gentle.
•We made a mistake, and we’re unaware of it. This is really good for us to know about. Tell us, but please do so briefly (in case we did know about it after all), and give us the option to ask you for more detail if we need it.
•It was something entirely beyond our control. If the weather is bad, or another PC was a jerk to you, or you had the stomach flu, or the power went out at the site, we feel bad for you, but there’s really not a lot we can do, so any mention in your PEL should be fleeting.
•The lines of communication failed. Sometimes a briefing is misunderstood or something doesn’t get done, with disastrous results. In such cases, just bear in mind that what happened wasn’t our intent.
•You weren’t the right player for the situation. It’s not uncommon to wind up in an encounter, situation, or even game that is just designed for people with different tastes. We can’t change the flavor of the game in a misguided attempt to appeal to everyone (which is impossible, of course), so if you find that this happens to you a lot, you may just be in the wrong game. We will not be at all offended if you decide that, having taken a taste of 7V, you prefer to leave the rest on your plate and go get takeout instead, as it were.
Finally, with negative feedback, please just remember that there are bunch of people reading it on the other end who worked very hard on the event and have feelings, too. That is all.
Some people like to include an in game section in their PELs, such as an in character journal. This is great! You can add that at the end. Just be sure to also fill out the standard OOG questions, because we really want to know that stuff, too.
We really, really appreciate your PELs! They are incredibly useful to us. Reading a good, detailed PEL is like opening a present. We love getting them! Thank you!
